Work That Works

Good design starts with understanding exactly what a project needs to accomplish. Here’s a selection of design work I’ve created for businesses, organizations, and solopreneurs. Different clients. Different problems. Different solutions. The common thread is clear thinking, careful execution, and compelling work that’s built to last.

West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project website by designICU

1

Problem

WOEIP had an established website and growing community, but needed ongoing technical and design support as its programs and digital needs evolved. Pages needed improvement, new functionality had to be added, and several systems behind the site needed modernization.

2

Solution

Since 2024, I’ve managed and steadily improved the site, redesigning key pages, adding new features, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting new initiatives as they arise. Most recently, I migrated WOEIP’s complex email operation from Mailchimp to MailerLite, restructuring more than 100 audience groups while preserving subscriber data and integrating the new system with the website.

3

Outcome

WOEIP now has an actively maintained digital platform that can evolve alongside the organization rather than falling behind it. I continue to work directly with the team on website improvements, email marketing, integrations, and day-to-day technical needs as an ongoing digital partner.

Studio RedEye website by designICU

1

Problem

Studio RedEye had outgrown its old website. The Brooklyn industrial design studio had built an impressive portfolio of products for major brands (Clorox, OXO, Skip Hop, DAME, Banana Republic, Redken) but the site had fallen behind and no longer presented the work, capabilities, or studio itself at the level they deserved.

2

Solution

I completely redesigned and rebuilt the site around the work. A new, highly visual portfolio organizes a large body of projects across multiple product categories, while expanded service and studio content gives prospective clients a much clearer picture of what David Block does and how he works.

3

Outcome

A modern portfolio site that finally matches the quality of the work. Studio RedEye can now showcase decades of product design experience, demonstrate its range at a glance, and give prospective clients a much stronger reason to make contact.

Margulies Hoelzli Architecture website by designICU

1

Problem

A multi-office architecture firm — with offices across New York, Florida, and Texas — needed a website that could showcase a large, growing portfolio of major commercial and institutional projects at a level of polish that matched their reputation, without becoming slow or hard to manage as the work piled up.

2

Solution

A full-screen video gallery homepage built with Slider Revolution, paired with Envira Gallery for fast, high-volume project display, and extensive custom styling to keep the experience polished at scale.

3

Outcome

Launched in 2018 and still actively supported by me today, the site has grown to 115+ projects and a 40+ person staff directory, and an 8-year partnership with no sign of slowing down.

Eileen Hsu, Chinese Speaking Agent website by designICU

1

Problem

Eileen Hsu had an established real estate website, but its design and technology had fallen badly out of date. It no longer reflected the professionalism of her business or provided the polished, modern experience prospective clients expect.

2

Solution

I completely redesigned and rebuilt the site with a custom WordPress theme, elevating the visual presentation while reorganizing the content around Eileen’s real estate services, experience, and expertise serving Chinese-speaking buyers and sellers.

3

Outcome

A modern, professional website that better reflects Eileen’s experience and gives prospective clients a much stronger first impression. The new site provides a flexible foundation for her real estate marketing and is considerably easier to maintain over time.
